Grameen-Jameel and Sanabel Network are pleased to announce the winners of Grameen-Jameel Awards for Microfinance Institutions for 2011.
This award was given to Fondation Banque Populaire pour le MicroCrédit (FBPMC) – Morocco, for innovation in the field of technology application in management, as they have utilized mobile phones in information dissemination within the management system in a way that allowed for the introduction of new financial products that meet the real demands of clients.
This award was given to Enda inter-arabe – Tunisia, for its leading role in microfinance in the region and worldwide, especially in the area of development and for being a role model for other MFIs in the region. Enda is indeed a leading MFIs as it started its operation in microfinance more than 10 years ago and since then has applied best practices and has become a role model for the microfinance sector.
This Award was given to Microfund for Women – Jordan, for the high sustainability levels which the MFI was able to achieve since its establishment which enabled it to reach more clients and expand the services provided. Through its 24 branches (located all over Jordan) MFW was able to achieve a high penetration rate while maintaining portfolio quality.
Grameen-Jameel and Sanabel Network introduced this Awards Program for the second year in a row to recognize Arab microfinance institutions that demonstrate excellence in the following categories:
- Innovation
- Leadership
- Sustainable Growth
The awards were announced at the opening ceremony of Sanabel’s 8th Annual Conference, and certificates of recognition and financial prizes were provided by Grameen-Jameel to the winners in appreciation for their achievements.
This year, Sanabel received 21 applications from 8 Arab countries, and the table below has the breakdown of applicants for each category of the awards, and the following table has it according to the geographical area.

- Ms. Julia Assad – General Manager, Grameen-Jameel
- Ms. Momina Aijazuddin – Principal Investment Officer, IFC Global Financial Markets (IFC)
- Ms. Kholud El Khaldi, Projects Development Specialist, International Labor Organization (ILO)
